'This picture shows an East Everly Street apartment building which was destroyed by fire on March 20th, 1972. (East Everly Street runs parallel to University Avenue in the vicinity of Pierpont House and the Twin Tower Dorms) The building was owned by James M. Prete, Morgantown Contractor. The building contained 15 apartments which housed University students and faculty members. The fire started at about 12:30 in the afternoon on March 20. These pictures were shot at about 6:00 in the evening just before the fire was brought under control. The fire was apparently caused by a spark from the torch of a welder who was working in the attic of the building. The insulation was ignited and the fire spread down through the walls and across the roof. The fire provoked a controversy in city council concerning the adequacy of Morgantown's fire fighting equpiment. Mr. Prete was also acused of using cheap and unsafe methods in the construction of the building. These pictures were shot by Miss Carol Wrobleski who lived on Harding Avenue near the site of the fire.'
