'Westover lies on the West Bank of the River, directly opposite the City and to all intents and purposes is a part thereof, and will soon rival the City in industry and fine residences. Transportation in addition to the B. and O. and the B. and N. railroad (the latter now building) the Morgantown and Kingwood railroad extends eastward through the Deckers Creek and Cheat River valleys to Rowlesburg, opening up to development vast coal, timber, lime, stone and sand deposits, all of which have tended to increase Morgantown's business and commercial advantages. Then we have slackwater , with daily lines of packets to Pittsburg and Fairmont, which gives us competition in rates that could not otherwise be obtained.'
