Plowing on Felton farm, located on the west bank of the Cheat River, north of the town of Parsons, W. Va. Visible in the background is the Monongahela Power Company gauge house, which would measure the depth of water in the river.The two plowmen are Fred Felton, on the right, and Otto Plum, on the left. Jack Felton was present, but is not pictured. Draft horses pictured were owned by John Harold Felton, assessor of Tucker County and proprietor of the Holly Meadows Dairy.

Thompson came to Tucker County as part of the Blackwater Boom and Lumber Company working as a secretary and timekeeper while his uncles, Frank and J. F. Thompson, were among the first stockholders of the company. Eventually he was made manager of the company until its close in 1924. He and the Thompson family remained active in the community.

Albert Thompson of Philadelphia bought the J. L. Rumbarger Lumber Company which was the first lumber company in the area of Davis and Canaan Valley. He then established the Thompson Lumber Company, which later became the Blackwater Boom and Lumber Company. The mill contributed much to the economy and lumber boom of the 1900's, but closed down in 1924.

The overhead, or cableway skidder, used several different cables raised at both ends, from the skidder to trees above the loading area, and allowed loggers to raise log loads above ground obstructions in order to move them. 'One of the first lawyers in Tucker County, W. Va. Lloyd Hansford secured a good common school education and in 1879 graduated from the State Normal School at Fairmont with a degree in Law, being the first graduate from Tucker County from any State institution. His first office was in St. George, W. Va., then moved to Parsons when it became the county seat. His office was on Main Street called the Hansford Building, and the Opera House of Parsons.
