Grounds of I.C. White property (where White Hall now stands) and WVU Library which was then in the Old Administration Building (now Stewart Hall). On the Opposite side of the street is the old Lutheran Church which was torn down. A Lutheran student chapel now stands in its stead.
'Dedication, To Dr. I.C. White, the friend and patron of West Virginia University, in recognition of his attainments as a scholar, his usefulness as a citizen, and his worth as a man, this volume is respectfully dedicated.'
The courtyard square with a fountain and trees. A historic monument dedicated to Waitman Willey, Alexander I. Wade, and Dr. I.C. White, three prominent men who made prominent gifts to the world. Mr. Willey helped set up the state of West Virginia. Mr. Wade demonstrated a system for graded schools. And Mr. White was a leader in the field of geology.
