'West Virginians Turned New Yorkers Will Receive Honorary U Degrees.  Three West Virginia natives, all now living in  New York State, will receive Doctor of Human Letters degrees from West Virginia University.  The degrees will be conferred at the May 29 Commencement on (Left to Right): J. Montgomery Curtis, executive director of the American Press Institute at Columbia University; James Allen Jr., president of the University of the State of New York and Commissioner of Education; and William M. Batten, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of J.C. Penney Company.'
