Built in 1763 on the Sulphur Spring Rd. south of Martinsburg, Virginia (West Virginia) and burned down in 1922. George Washington recorded in his journal his visit to "Pastrauga" on his way to Bath.
This dress was made by Miss Blanche,and has a portrait collar. She made it to wear when leaving West Virginia Wesleyan in Spring, 1919 after earning her Graduate Studies Degree, to teach in the Fall in Morgantown. Blanche is the daughter of Alexander and Martha Stonestreet.
Paris Hammons, the father of fiddler Edden Hammons, and his family are the subjects of a Library of Congress publication, "The Hammons Family: Traditions of a West Virginia Family and Friends". The phase, "Howdy Fellers", a favorite greeting of Paris Hammons, is written on the front of the photograph.

Franklin Roosevelt, standing on a stone column to speak to hundreds of people crowded around the courthouse and in the street. This photograph was most likely taken during the 1920 presidential campaign when Roosevelt was the Democratic Party's vice presidential candidate. Note Roosevelt is standing, without assistance of crutches or braces. He did not contract polio until 1921.
