Franklin Roosevelt, standing on a stone column to speak to hundreds of people crowded around the courthouse and in the street. This photograph was most likely taken during the 1920 presidential campaign when Roosevelt was the Democratic Party's vice presidential candidate. Note Roosevelt is standing, without assistance of crutches or braces. He did not contract polio until 1921.
