Jubal Early, former Confederate General, leans against General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson's headstone in the "Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery". Early served under Jackson in the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War. Jackson's remains were reinterred in 1890, several feet from the original grave site. A large statue of Jackson was placed over the new grave.

Martin Hall is on the left and Woodburn Seminary to the right. Martin Hall was the first building constructed for the University. Woodburn Seminary burnt down in 1873. Woodburn Hall was built soon afterwards on the site.
