President William Howard Taft, front row center, delivered the inaugural speech Nov. 1, 1911, when Thomas Edward Hodges, became president of the University. Identified front row, left to right, are Daniel B. Purinton, Gov. W.E. Glasscock, President Taft, Thomas E. Hodges and Dr. I.C. White. Left, 2nd row: Judge Frank Cox, Henry Green, editor of the Morgantown Post. The first two men pictured in the back row could not be identified, third is James L. Lakin, fourth Maj. Butts, who lost his life in sinking of Titanic; fifth, Mr. Sigwart; sixth George C. Baker; seventh, H.C. Batton; eight and ninth, unidentified; 10th Harry Carspecken; and others, M. L.
