From the Dominion News caption, July 29, 1970: 'It may be messy now but West Virginia University Library employees try to ignore the 'ditch' and concentrate on the promised blessings of central air conditioning. Mrs. Lawrence A. Lang plugs away at the typewriter while the chasm in her office awaits installation of equipment.'
Construction begin on the main section of the library in 1930. The tower or floors six through 10 were added in 1950. This photo of the building before the addition of the tower, was possibly taken in the 1940's.
