Thompson worked at the Blackwater Boom and Lumber Company, which was established by Albert Thompson.  He later became manager when the company was acquired by the Babcock Lumber Company.

The mill closed at Davis in 1924.

Va. during the Civil War and owned a Blacksmith shop. He and his wife moved to Davis around 1890.J. William Kidwell worked for Babcock Lumber Co. and Blackwater Coal Co.
