Description:
Jones entered the war as a Captain in the 1st Virginia Cavalry and was subsequently promoted to General, commanding the Laurel Brigade under J.E.B. Stuart. In 1863 he was transferred to the Trans-Allegheny Department, leading the successful "Jones-Imboden Cavalry Raid" through a large portion of West Virginia. Jones was killed in the Shenandoah Valley during the Battle at Piedmont, Virginia, June, 1864.

'This is what was left of the old Orr's store, known as Orr Brothers, operated by Frank and Charlie Orr, who bought out the old Acme store. The small window was the office window, the one to the left a freight window, both were on the mezzanine floor. To the left what was the left of Comuntzis and to the right Morgantown Hardware Ruins.'

Leroy Myers, right, graduate student at Michigan State University, has received a $3,000 annual fellowship for study in the field of city planning and urban renewal, according to Harold W. Lautner, left, head of the M.S.U. department of landscape architecture and urban planning. On behalf of the donor, the Sears-Roebuck Foundation, J.J. Roden, manager of the Sears store in Lansing, Mich., presents the fellowship certificate to Myers. An assistant professor of geography at West Virginia University, Myers will do advanced study at M.S.U. for the coming two years. Four other individuals studying city planning and urban renewal at other universities received similar awards.
