Construction begin on the main section of the library in 1930. The tower or floors six through 10 were added in 1950. This photo of the building before the addition of the tower, was possibly taken in the 1940's.

The library was built in 1902.  After another, larger library was constructed in 1932, this building was subsequently renamed Stewart Hall and houses the West Virginia University administration offices.
Eliza's Cafe on the fourth floor of the Downtown Library is named after Miss Skinner.

The exhibit was located in E. Moore Hall and was created for the first W. Va. Day. The celebration took place in June of 1987. The David Hunter Strother Collection is now housed in the West Virginia and Regional History Center in Wise Library.
