A popular history professor at West Virginia University, Dr. Maxwell was noted for the excellence of his classes and for his broad range of knowledge and humanitarian activities. Raised in Huntington, Dr. Maxwell received his Bachelor of Arts degree from WVU in 1958, served with the army in Germany, then returned to achieve advance degrees and join the faculty. He was an active member of the local and global community, traveling to Guatemala to assist on development projects and to El Salvador in 1994 to help oversee that country`s democratic elections. His recent photograph was on display 1/26-5/28/1996'
