Most likely the couple is W. Benton and Edna Campbell, owners of the shoe store, posing in front of their business located at 318 Main Street in Fairmont.

The Tygart Valley River is on the left, Monongahela River is in the center, and the West Fork River is on the right. 'Around Fairmont 115 leave 215 for Connellsvile. Quite a pretty town altho hilly. The Black Hand was an underworld society of Italians that thrived in Sicily in the late 19th century. After the great migration, immigrants of the group settled in West Virginia and sought to extort money from other Italian immigrants to the area. Several members of the Black Hand were successfully prosecuted for murder and extortion in the early 20th century.
